RR Meeting Notes/October 8, 2003

 

Old Business

Club tax process is moving forward.

 

The Vermillion Clean-up was a great success.  About 3800 pounds of junk was cleaned up.  Many donations were collected, nobody went home empty handed.  A new “dump site” was found so there will be plenty to do next year.

 

Midwest Mountaineering is changing the boats they carry.  Keep providing feedback.

 

Wausau Whitewater Park- The large hole has been changed to make is safer.

 

THANK YOU to Alan and Dean to all their work on the Stone Arch Festival.

 

Dean won 1st place in the Butter Cup series in OC-1.  Alan was also among the winners.

 

Rilander may be a race site added next year.

 

Bob D. wanted to pass on that the Liquid Skills class went well.  If you took the class, please contact him regarding some updated billing info.

 

Current Events

The Whitewater Park is at a standstill.  RR members are encouraged to talk about the park to whomever they know on the current administration staff.  Email Dale E if you need more information.

 

Dale is the MN representative for the ACA.

 

Alan has been newly elected as Race Director for the MCA.  Many races to look forward to: Stone Arch, Apple River, Taylors Falls.  Alan will need help (setting up gates, etc.) as the race season approaches, please contact him if you can help.

 

Alan hopes to set up a kids racing clinic.  Any interested instructor, please contact him for more information.  Goal is the month of July.

 

Please Contact Dale E if you are in need of updating your certification.

 

The committee working on the policy for equipment: please come to next meeting with proposals.  In addition, Chad will bring past notes.

 

Chad K is working on writing a grant to continue the program he coordinated at the last canoe U:  Introducing At-risk kids to whitewater kayaking.  Please contact him with interest in assisting with this.

 

If you are interested in becoming an instructor-Super, Go for it!!  Contact Bob D or Chad K.  Some support is provided by the RR club.

 

Upcoming

Rescue Class (with KCI) will be back to the old schedule, stay tuned for more information.  Some of the people who took the rescue class will be practicing their skills at the winter pool sessions for anyone who is interested.

 

Next Canoe U will be the weekend before and the weekend after Memorial Day Weekend.

 

1st Pool Session starts November 2.  It will be every Sunday evening from 7-9pm at the Brooklyn Center Pool.

 

The RR Holiday Party will be Saturday, December 6, 2003 at the Breckenridge Chapter House beginning at 5pm-Social Hour, 6pm Pot Luck.  Bring a dish to share. 

Last names that start with:         A-E please bring an appetizer or salad

F-L please bring main dish

M-Z please bring a dessert. 

Utensils, plates etc. provided. 

Hot Apple Cider will be served or bring your beverage of choice.

 

Voting for Officers will be at the next RR meeting on November 12, 2003.
